   2. For Mac: Open your "Applications" folder and double click on "Pinnacle 21 Community".

To use Pinnacle 21 Validator

  1. Specify the "Source Data" by browsing to a data file or a folder containing your data files.
  2. Select your format: "SAS Transport (XPORT)" or "Delimited Text". If you selected "Delimited", you can specify a Delimiter and a Qualifier. The default delimiter is a "|" (vertical pipe).
  3. Specify the "Configuration". You can choose from the listed options that come packaged with the Validator, or browse to your own.
  4. Optionally specify the "Define.xml". If you have a define.xml file associated with your data, providing it to the program will help provide more relevant checks.
  5. Choose your preferred report format. You can select Excel or CSV. Note that the Excel format is limited to displaying the first 65535 error messages, but the Validator will check all of your data even if you exceed this amount. You can ignore certain error messages by clicking the Report Settings link and selecting the desired message filters.
  6. Press the Validate button.
  7. Once the validation is complete, you can view a detailed report by clicking the Open Report button.

To use Pinnacle 21 Define.xml Generator

  1. Specify the "Source Data" by browsing to a data file or a folder containing your data files.
  2. Specify the "Configuration". You can choose from the listed options that come packaged with the Validator, or browse to your own.
  3. Click the Create button.
  4. Once the creation is complete, you can view the excel spec by clicking the Open Spec button.
  5. Import Define.xml - specify a define.xml to create an excel spec from it.
  6. Click the Create button.
  7. Once the creation is complete, you can view the excel spec by clicking the Open Spec button.
  8. Please note you cannot specify both Source Data and a define.xml at the same time.
  9. Generate Define - specify the "Excel Spec" by browsing to your excel file.
  10. Click the Generate button.
  11. Once the creation is complete, you can view the Define.xml by clicking the Open Define.xml button.  

To use Pinnacle 21 Data Converter

  1. Specify the "Source Format" of your data from the dropdown menu.
  2. Specify the "Source Data" by browsing to a data file or a folder containing your data files.
  3. Specify the "Output Format" from the dropdown menu.
  4. Specify the "Output Path" where you would like your converted data files to be placed.
  5. If you are converting into Dataset-XML you must supply the define.xml with your data or associate your data to a standard config. Associating a config will create a template define.xml with the metadata about your datasets and variables. The define.xml will be placed in your output path.
  6. Click the Convert button.
  7. Once the conversion is complete, you can navigate to the output path and open your new files or select Open Folder

To use Pinnacle 21 ClinicalTrials.gov Miner

  1. Specify the "Report Type" from the dropdown menu.
  2. Insert your "Search Query" by typing it in or copy-pasting it from the clintrial.gov url.  Include the text string after the "?" from the query which you create on that website.  e.g. https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/results?term=%22heart+attack%22&Search=Search  turns into: term=%22heart+attack%22&Search=Search.  You can also experiment with 
  3. If you are searching for outcomes you can optionally specify a categories file which will arrange your data according to specific characteristics.  E.g. Use a csv with 2 columns 
    SEARCH_TERM DISPLAY_CATEGORY
    ABNORMALITY CRITERIA ABNORMALITY CRITERIA
    ADVERSE EVENT AE Incidence
  4. Click the Mine button.
  5. Once the search process is complete you can view the excel sheet by clicking the Open Report button.
